Estate Manager
Bothal Estate (part of The Welbeck Estates Company Limited)
Nr Morpeth, South-East Northumberland
A unique opportunity to take responsibility for the Bothal Estate near Morpeth in Northumberland, a small, traditional estate, extending to approximately 1500 acres. The estate comprises a diverse portfolio of residential and commercial properties, let farmland, woodland and the ancient Bothal Castle, which has been in the ownership of the same family since the 1300’s.
The Estate Manager will be part of the wider Welbeck team of over 200 employees and work in collaboration with the other estate managers in the senior management team, reporting to the Property and Rural Estates Director, who is based at the Welbeck Estate in Nottinghamshire. This role will involve regular interaction with the team at the Welbeck Estate both in person and remotely.
The Position
As a key ambassador to the Bothal Estate, the Estate Manager will oversee its day-to-day operations, supported by the local estate team. Their primary focus will be on enhancing, optimising and expanding its enterprises to secure its long-term profitability and sustainability. The role offers the opportunity to contribute to the development of new estate strategy, drive the diversification of revenue streams, and lead innovative projects that align with the business’s long-term vision.
The Candidate
The role will suit a dynamic and resourceful individual with a forward-thinking mindset who is eager to take on more responsibility. The individual will have strong multi-tasking skills, and the ability to work independently as well as being part of a team. Candidate qualities we are looking for include:
- MRICS qualified with a proven track record in rural estate management.
- Business savvy with strong commercial and financial acumen.
- An engaging and professional character with strong communication skills, including listening skills, who leads by example and can interact with and develop relationships with people from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds.
- A strategic thinker able to show initiative and contribute ideas.
- An appreciation of the Estate’s natural and historic heritage, along with an understanding of the values and long-term vision of a multi-generational family estate.
- Knowledge and understanding of the culture of the north-east is an advantage.
